Egoism : Mao Tse Tung personal ambition to take over the country, destroy anyone that stood in his way, and then got the whole nation to worship him for many years, with the cultural revolution and the sustained propagandized history that gets their people to still worship him Altruism: Lady Diana, Princess of Wales She cared about children all over the world, in her own school when she was a teacher, and in less developed countries, encouraging attention and action at helping them, PLUS Diana had a mission to rid the world of land-mines, to make them illegal, and to have existing ones found and removed and disarmed.

Do you think there is really such a thing as true altruism?
Q. Can you really do something without having absoluty no self-benefit in it? Even giving to charity has self benefit.

A. There is absolutely no such thing as an altruistic lifestyle - however, I think that a human can possibly perform an altruistic act (and usually by mistake), but this is rare. Call me a cynic, but even people who do things "because that's what Jesus would do" or "so I can go to heaven" or because "I would want the same consideration shown to me/ it's in the name of justice" are ALL doing things for their own benefit in the long run. If everytime anyone did good they were then punished for it in some way, no one would do good - guaranteed. If some all-powerful creature said "do good because I said so, but you also have to go to hell and suffer as part of the whole deal," plus, you are thrown in jail in the name of justice, persecuted in… [cont.]
